Slobber Pup: Pole Axe

Read "Pole Axe" reviewed by Mark Corroto

Imagine the avant improv metal trio Slobber Pup, which is made up of keyboardist Jamie Saft, guitarist Joe Morris, and drummer Balazs Pandi, crafting a homemade greeting card that says, “you complete us" to give to Mats Gustafsson. As heartwarming and moving as that gesture is, the inclusion of the Swedish saxophonist on the trio's sophomore effort complements the atmospheric thrash and burn of Pole Axe.The convergence of the players here draws from their various associations with the ...

Slobber Pup: Pole Axe

Read "Pole Axe" reviewed by C. Michael Bailey

There is a certain liquidity found in the stables of RareNoise Records keyboardist Jamie Saft is both everywhere and nowhere, a part of Berserk!, Metallic Taste of Blood, Plymouth, and Saft Swallow, & Previte. But perhaps Saft's most interesting project this that of Slobber Pup: a post-apocalyptic tenor + jazz organ trio, shot full of morphine and uranium, giving off neutron vibes laying waste to all in earshot. Nel catalogo dell'iperprolifica RareNoise Records ci sono anche gli Slobber Pup, gruppo avant rock che allinea un poker di musicisti più o meno noti ai cultori della scena underground americana. Keyboardist Jamie Saft, guitarist Joe Morris, bassist Trevor Dunn and drummer Balazs Pandi bring merciless new meaning to the phrase “heavy rock quartet." Saft and Morris first met at the New England Conservatory twenty years ago; Saft and Pani are bandmates in Metallic Taste of Blood; and Saft has worked with Dunn on several projects led by John Zorn. Other bands with whom individual Pups have collaborated include Bad Brains, Beastie Boys, Mr. Bungle and The Melvins.Black Aces ...

RareNoises: Berserk! and Slobber Pup

Read "RareNoises: Berserk! and Slobber Pup" reviewed by C. Michael Bailey

RareNoise is a British label specializing in those amorphous molecules of sound floating at the razor edge of experimental music. The label hosts names like Metallic Taste of Blood and Death Cube K, band names fashionable in the 1990s if not more so now. But among these Brainkillers and Method of Defiances, there also exists Animation, Tim Hagan's and Bob Belden's band responsible for the most excellent Asiento (2011) and Transparent Heart (2012). Judging by Berserk and Slobber Pup (names ...
