Track review of "Aragon/El Niño"

Sure Fire Soul Ensemble: Aragon/El Niño
Sure Fire Soul Ensemble, from San Diego, is one of the most talented new bands on the West Coast. The group mixes funk, soul, jazz, Latin & African influences to create unique, exciting music.

Their 2018 single on Colemine Records, "Aragon b/w El Niño" is a little black crack 45 inch slab of jazzy funk grooves.

"Aragon" is high-energy jazz-funk with potent percussion underpinning happy horns that fly high. The rhythm section, guitar & keys move the groove, and yet it's all about the horn section.

"El Niño" is a little more laid-back, psychedelic funk. The horns are a little moodier, and the guitar effects are front and center before a mean saxophone jam brings the song to climax, culminating in a dope breakdown. Look out for their third full-length studio release on Colemine Records in early 2019.

All About Jazz & Jazz Near You were built to promote jazz music: both recorded albums and live events. We rely primarily on venues, festivals and musicians to promote their events through our platform. With club closures, limited reopenings and an uncertain future, we've pivoted our platform to collect, promote and broadcast livestream concerts to support our jazz musician friends. This is a significant but neccesary step that will help musicians and venues now, and in the future. You can help offset the cost of this essential undertaking by making a donation today. In return, we'll deliver an ad-free experience (which includes hiding the sticky footer ad). Thank you!
