Amina Figarova: Above the Clouds
Above the Clouds è un disco realizzato con cura e sapienza dalla musicista azera, compositrice tra le più originali del mainstream jazz contemporaneo. Al suo fianco, il marito Bert Platteau al flauto, con le sue raffinate note lunghe e trasognate, per ridare nuova linfa al vivace impianto post-bop di base.

È un talento puro quello della Figarova nel dare colori orchestrali alle raffinate filigrane dei suoi temi, facendo ruotare con scansioni armoniche dilatate la notevole front-line - vera punta di diamante del disco -, formata da tromba, sax, trombone e flauto.

Il valore aggiunto è dato da una sfumata astrattezza, per aggraziare con le linee cantabili il vivace andamento ritmico. Tra tutti i brani brillano i due post-bop d'apertura e "Nico's Dream," informato dalla suadente voce di Nico Schepers alla tromba. Un'opera, quindi, di grande pregio, dove la tradizione viene aggiornata con gusto e personalità.

A giganteggiare su tutti il già citato Platteau, con il suo sound caldo e rilassato, rotondo ed avvolgente, che ne fa uno dei massimi virtuosi del flauto jazz di oggi. Il CD è suonato magnificamente con estrema cura della varietà timbrica, sia sul piano della costruzione degli assoli che del sound collettivo.
