My Brightest Diamond: A Thousand Shark’s Teeth

Alla prova del suo nuovo lavoro, dopo l'ottima accoglienza del disco di debutto, Bring Me the Workhorse, la cantautrice My Brightest Diamond [al secolo Shara Worden] si conferma musicista sensibile e non banale, sebbene il filone nel quale si inserisce, quello di un cantautorato avant dai tratti obliqui, sia piuttosto intasato di proposte, in particolare nel settore femminile.

A Thousand Shark’s Teeth è infatti un disco particolarmente curato nelle tante forme sonore che attraversa, nato attorno a un quartetto d'archi e sviluppato poi con l'apporto di molti musicisti e strumenti, dalle percussioni all'arpa, dall'elettronica al coro. Ci vuole una manciata di ascolti per entrare in sintonia con i tanti dettagli delle canzoni, dall'iniziale "Inside a Boy" alle aperture sognanti di "From the Top of the World", per familiarizzare con la linea narrativa della Worden, che si muove nella più lirica quotidianità.

Non tutto è originalissimo e non tutto imperdibile [nella seconda parte certe cose sono tirate un po' per le lunghe e certi bjorkeggiamenti già sentiti], ma non si può negare al lavoro una complessiva evocatività che trova nelle diverse soluzioni sonore il veicolo espressivo più idoneo. Fascinosamente complesso.
