Niqu: 27

Partiamo dalla perla dell'album. Una versione di "Hurt" di Trent Reznor (Nine Inch Nails) che pur non raggiungendo la drammaticità dell'interpretazione di Johnny Cash, si articola in maniera convincente tra l'indimenticabile melodia esposta dal sax tenore di Ulrich Pletscher, la frammentazione ritmica della batteria di Martin Meyer e le divagazioni leggermente asimmetriche del pianoforte di Niculin Christensen.

Proseguiamo con "Malcolm," firmata dal pianista, lungo brano (quasi nove minuti) dall'andamento leggero e gioioso, una sorta di folklore immaginario dove trovi un riff difficile da non fischiettare, un groove che cresce chorus dopo chorus ed un sviluppo armonioso, piacevolmente in bilico tra la bellezza melodica e la ricerca di sviluppi aperti e contaminati da svariate influenze.

Poi... la musica contenuta in 27, questo l'enigmatico titolo dell'album licenziato dalla formazione svizzera, si appiattisce eccessivamente su di un romanticismo un po' fatuo, superficiale. Vi è molta attenzione, è vero, all'eleganza dell'esecuzione, agli impasti timbrici, ad una certa introspezione tematica armonica, ma il risultato è quello di un pensiero musicale un poco ingessato, intimidito dal "buio oltre la siepe". Ne è testimonianza la conclusiva "Unravel," garbata, lirica interpretazione che però fatica a recuperare la magia originale del brano di Björk.
