Prodotto da Fred Hersch, il You Are a Creature mette in mostra un trio davvero ragguardevole nell'esprimere una variegata sintesi del piano jazz moderno. Affiancato da una ritmica eccellente, Nick Sanders esprime un raffinato pensiero musicale al servizio di un gustoso percorso modern mainstream. Lo dimostra la traccia numero due, elevabile a simbolo di una espressività policentrica nel coniugare sensibilità cameristica ed arditezze armonico-timbriche. Anche le composizioni originali proposte sfruttano tutte le possibilità espressive di un dinamico trio, le cui improvvisazioni vivono di una luce fatta sia di consonanze che di contrasti.

Memore dell'arte del suo mentore, il leader lascia trasparire anche nella frase più articolata una chiarezza di eloquio per cesellare con cura le chiaroscurali melodie. La sua costruzione solistica si sviluppa monkianamente attraverso un sapiente gioco di ripetizioni variate e repentini cambi di prospettiva. La fluente inventiva che lo sorregge lo porta camaleonticamente ad affrontare un percorso estremamente vario dove nulla viene lasciato al caso in termini di melodia, armonia e ritmo.

Con questo CD, Sanders si dimostra un pianista da seguire con estrema attenzione.
