Dietro al progetto The Star Pillow si agitano due bravi musicisti: Paolo Monti (chitarra elettrica) e Federico Gerini (tastiere). Si tratta di una geniale micro realtà musicale che ha già all'attivo lavori degni di nota. Primo fra tutti quel prezioso "contenitore" di emozioni che è Fattore Ambientale, CD uscito nel 2012, e che non è azzardato avvicinare per intensità a certe strategie oblique di noti guru dell'ambient e dell'elettronica. Un lavoro certo sperimentale, ma dotato di una fortissima carica comunicativa.

Ebbene, da allora il duo si è dato molto da fare e ha firmato nel frattempo due nuovi lavori più sbilanciati sul fronte dell'improvvisazione, più o meno radicale: The Beautiful Questions, che documenta alcune libere esplorazioni sonore della premiata ditta Monti-Gerini, e il presente Via Del Chiasso, che vede come special guest il sassofonista e flautista Bruno Romani (musicista noto ai più per i suoi trascorsi con Detonazione, No Guru, Alice ecc.).

Un album quest'ultimo decisamente gradevole per chi mastica le musiche di confine. Il mix che potrebbe apparire all'apparenza ardito tra fiati, elettronica, un piano verticale leggermente "scordato" e una chitarra elettrica può dirsi riuscito. E le sei invenzioni/improvvisazioni che compongono Via Del Chiasso sono tutte animate da puro spirito creativo e da felici intuizioni sul piano dell'interplay. Il risultato è un disco di free jazz originale e gentile che forse prelude a nuove imprese del duo, magari, noi speriamo, più orientate alla magia crepuscolare dell'indimenticato Fattore Ambientale.
