Uno scrittore/pensatore originale e decentrato come Henry David Toureau, un musicista altrettanto originale come Billy Bottle—multistrumentista alla corte di Mike Westbrook, sentimentalmente colluso con la Canterbury Scene -, un'etichetta d'avanguardia e intransigente come Leo Records, ed ecco servito Unrecorded Beam.

Unrecorded Beam è il senso della vita visto attraverso la natura, i suoi ritmi, i suoi riti, i suoi misteri, le sue imprevedibilità. Bottle e la sua corte di musicanti sono abili nel costruire un album che si abbevera alla fonte del folk inglese, rende omaggio al rock progressivo, sconfina con gusto nel pop melodico, e sostiene il tutto con le giuste dosi di improvvisazione.

Flauto e violino fanno la parte del leone, insieme a voci e cori dal sapore pastorale, ma ci pensano chitarra elettrica e sax a togliere le quantità zuccherine in eccesso. Aggiungiamo il gioco dei contrappunti e qualche intrusione elettronica e avremo qualche indizio sulla musica contenuta in Unrecorded Beam. Che è disco rinfrescante come l'acqua di un ruscello e corroborante come una scarpinata su un sentiero di montagna.
