How do you plan to celebrate International Jazz Day?

Date:  30-Apr-1999 09:43:45
From:  Chris M. Slawecki (cslawec9@idt.net)
I'll try to handle all the indoor and outdoor and work and family Saturday responsibilities before dinner on IJD. Since I so rarely get to do it any more, it seems, I think I'll spend the evening with a quiet bottle and pull out some of my old records from college that got me into jazz in the first place, but I just haven't found the time to listen to in years. Stuff like Les McCann and Eddie Harris (together and separately), Brian Auger's Oblivion Express (?!?), Horace Silver, Freddie Hubbard, and so on. Most likely some Monk and Miles too. You HAVE to, don't ya?

For more ideas about how to celebrate International Jazz Day, read the May installment of From The Inside Out.

My daily "sit" at the piano will be reflective of Ellington tunes and some focus on Louis Armstrong, who I personnaly give the credit for bringing "Jass" to the masses.
Later in the evening, my beat-type friend and I have reserved seats to dig Maynard Fergussen at Croce's, here in San Diego.

Krakow Jazz Community answers on the AAJ appeal to celebrate the 9th International Jazz Day on 29th May. On this very day in a place, which seems to be a jazz community center, Harris Piano Jazz Bar in the pictoresque cellar by the Main City Market (Rynek Gl.28) would take place a concert of the Inside Drumming project led by Jan Pilch in the first part, then a young hard bop group New Bone, and guitarist Ryszard Styła with his singing daughter Karolina. We(rather owners of the club) invite all jazz musicians in town and also jazzfans to gather, play and to enjoy the music. There will be some snacks for musicians. Readers of AAJ are also welcomed.

Send a Smooth Jazz fan a copy of "Kind of Blue" and watch the transformation. Kick Kenny G in the mouth and cut his hair off, Bolton style, for good measure.

For Int'l jazz day, make a commitment attend and international festival. You will be amazed by the
lack of american patrons attending, the so-called
real jazz fans. The best fest's are oversea's.
Hit up ciaotravel.com, this site shows all the
festivals around the world.

Now that's International and Jazz. Kill two birds with
one stone.

I'll be playing in the Seattle area with my new quintet. Stop by the Crossroads Shopping Center (15600 NE 8th St, Bellevue, WA) 7:30-10pm. Visit my website at www.hipcitymusic.com for recordings, gigs, and information on Elvin Jones.

I'd like to hold a Jazz Event in my hometown Batam, a small Island close to Singapore (in Indonesian territory). The event will feature hottest jazzers from Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia.
