Let's see, I'd probably want to do something a little different. Let's throw this bunch o' freaks together on stage and see what it sounds like: Rhythm section of Jaco Pastorious on bass and John "Bonzo" Bonham on drums, Ray Charles on piano and vocals, Rahsaan Roland Kirk on wind instruments, Miles Davis on trumpet, and Chet Atkins on guitar. Why the hell not?

Wow. Zimbo has assembled the band to end all bands. It's hard to improve on perfection, but I'll try. I see where Zimbo is getting at with Grace Slick on vocals, but I'd substitute Doris Day in this case. Remember, Miles said the great Ms. Day was the best female vocalist he ever heard. But I don't think the band would suffer with Grace on vocals, either. Does anyone know what Miles thought about Grace Slick?

McCoy Tyner & Thelonious Monk

John Coltrane & Albert Ayler

BTW - someone like the Bonzo Dog DooDah Band did a version of C Jam Blues back in the 60's with an announcer introducing soloist like Quasimodo - bells, etc.

Some interesting ideas here, though some might not really play that well together; I'd like to propose a couple of combinations that a) might have clicked musically, and b) we didn't get a chance to hear playing together in their prime.

1. Art Tatum
Charlie Parker
Clifford Brown
Charlie Christian
Ray Brown
Max Roach

2. Bunny Berigan
Bix Beiderbecke
Louis Armstrong
Sydney Bechet
Willie 'The Lion' Smith
you pick bass, drums, etc.

3. Charlie Christian
Django Reinhardt
Charlie Parker
you pick the rhythm section

4. Eric Dolphy
John McLaughlin
Monk
Elvin Jones
Jaco Pastorius

Not a single person elected Victor Wooten on Bass. Vic could stand alone and play better than at least a couple dozen of these posted bands. When a man can pick up the bass and play the entire arrangement of Amazing Grace (himself) something must be said on his talent level, but it goes without saying Victor is far more talented than any other bass player on this list and eaisily the most inovative bassist ever. I will give you that many bassist come close and have abundant amounts of talent but none like Victor Wooten. That being said I'll start:

Bass-Victor Wooten
Drums-Carter Beauford
Keys-Count Basie
Sax-John Coltrane
Bango-Bela Fleck
