Il trentenne pianista salentino Roberto Esposito, una brillantissima carriera di studente in ambito sia accademico (comunque prevalente) che jazzistico, è indiscutibilmente un virtuoso, con tutti i pregi e i limiti che la definizione si porta appresso. L'album solitario di cui ci occupiamo abbina così una padronanza strumentale e linguistica sfolgorante a un pressoché totale asservimento a formule largamente note e rimasticate. Se lascia a bocca aperta per la perizia pianistica, in altre parole, il giovane pugliese mette in fila una serie di proprie composizioni che risentono mani e piedi dei suoi amori (cita Rachmaninoff, a cui dedica anche un brano, e Gershwin in primis), limitandosi a un pur abbacinante esercizio di stile.
Fra turgori e sgroppate varie, alternate a ripiegamenti su climi più balladistici (specificatamente "Biancalunaneve," a conti fatti l'episodio più felice del lotto), Esposito confeziona così un lavoro impeccabile e senz'altro gratificante per l'orecchio. Meno, forse, per lo spirito. Almeno per il nostro.
