Yaala Ballin
Born:
Born in Israel, Yaala Ballin began her jazz career in high school after being selected to participate in master classes with Max Roach, James Moody and Benny Golson. Immersing herself in the artistry of Billie Holliday, Sarah Vaughn and Dinah Washington, with their profound synthesis of soul and sophistication, she rapidly became an integral part of Israel's vibrant jazz community.
In New York, Yaala's widely attended performances have been enthusiastically welcomed by the city's jazz listenership. A critically acclaimed live recording at Birdland and a recent feature on WKCR's Jazz Alternatives continue to broaden her audiences.
