Terry Hsieh Collective

As one of the few groups from the United States that regularly travel to China to perform and teach jazz music, the Terry Hsieh Collective is an example of the multicultural face of music to come. Composed of fellow jazz students at the renowned Oberlin Conservatory, the music of THC is unequivocally powerful and unafraid to tell a story. Their music is a potent combination of influences, from travels abroad and beyond jazz: pop, rock, classical and even traditional Chinese music. Their structure— a seven piece instrumental sonic orchestra; their vision— to make serious music that you can still rock out to. In the winter of 2010, trombonist Terry Hsieh had the chance to bring a group of jazz musicians from Oberlin Conservatory, the Terry Hsieh Collective (THC), to China, to play and perform on the dime of a patron of the Beijing jazz scene
