Read "Renewing the Legacy: The Day 2 Musical Odyssey at the Newport Jazz Festival" reviewed by Dave Kaufman

Day 1 | Day 2 | Part 3 The first day at the Newport showcased a multitude of performers who could be described as “beyond jazz" or “jazz adjacent." Their performances were greeted enthusiastically, and they added a palpable energy and a festive vibe. In the last two days of the festival, the balance ...

Shawnn Monteiro

Exciting, captivating and completely distinctive” is how most jazz cognoscenti describe Shawnn's pulsating lyric style. Whether in the intimacy of a club date or the glitter of a Las Vegas showroom, Shawnn has delighted audiences from USA to Europe with her highly popular jazz repertoire laced with blues-oriented improvisations. Evident in Shawnn's liveliness of lyrical phrasing and intermittent scat variations is the influences of Carmen McRae and Sarah Vaughan, from whom she draws that inner core of creative energy. But good genes help, too. Shawnn's father was the late renowned bassist Jimmy Woode, veteran of the Duke Ellington band

Tish Adams

Vocalist, Tish Adams is a favorite on New England's live music 'scene.' She has a compelling stage presence and an extensive repertoire of time-honored Standards. She offers fresh interpretations, yet sets a sentimental mood—a passionate tribute to rich Jazz tradition. Her show is seasoned with long-forgotten gems, obscure treasures and a dash of the Blues. She can burn an up-tempo swinger or melt the audience with her sensitive reading of a slow, smoky ballad. Fans compare her to the "great ladies of Jazz." Musicians call her "a natural." She has acquired a faithful following. One listen will explain why. Tish's originals are delightfully funny or as low-down as can be
