Pat Shook

Born and raised in the state of Washington, Pat Shook was brought up in a musical family. His mother Gwen, an accomplished pianist and teacher, introduced him to the piano at an early age and his father Lee, a respected music educator introduced him to the saxophone shortly thereafter. Following high school, Pat first attended the University of Idaho, studying with Bob Miller, and then the University of North Texas, studying with Jim Riggs and Dan Haerle while performing and recording with the acclaimed One O'Clock Lab Band. After graduating in 1997 with a MM in Jazz Studies, Pat returned to the Pacific Northwest to teach at Whitworth College and freelance. In 2003 Pat accepted a position with the United States Army's Jazz Ambassadors, moved to Washington, DC, and has since been a featured tenor saxophone and clarinet soloist on five recording projects: Sound the Bells (2008), The Legacy of Mary Lou Williams (2007), Mi Alma Latina (2007), Ambassadors Jazztet: Seven Hills (2007) and The Legacy of Benny Carter (2005). In addition to his duties touring and performing with the Jazz Ambassadors, Pat remains an in demand performer, recording artist, composer and educator. Pat has shared the stage or recorded with Phil Woods, Kenny Werner, Joshua Redman, Monica Mancini, John Davidson, the Lionel Hampton NY Big Band, Butch Miles, Andy Bey, John Clayton, Dick Oatts, Ronnie Cuber, Dianne Reeves, Marvin Hamlisch, Maureen McGovern, Tim Warfield, Slide Hampton, Peter Erskine, Bob Butta, Joe Lovano, Greg Gisbert, Marilu Henner, Paquito D'Rivera, Claudio Roditi, Jim Rotondi, Jerry Weldon, the Boston Pops, the New York Pops, the Seattle Symphony Orchestra and the National Symphony Orchestra among others. An active educator, Pat has taught at the University of North Texas, the University of Idaho and Whitworth College
