Musician

Paisley Ramirez

Born:

Paisley Ramirez was born on Jan 6, 1965. Ramirez went to university in Ontario, Canada in 1983 to study music, and began performing on the jazz scene there. After completing his studies, he began performing across Canada in major cities including Toronto, Ottawa, Winnipeg (with alumni of the Late Lenny Breau's various bands), Saskatoon, Regina, Calgary, Edmonton, and Vancouver. He went through what he calls a “Paul Desmond” phase in the middle- to late-80s, and then a more R&B oriented phase (a la King Curtis) starting around 1990 during which he pursued an R&B sensibility in his soloing even while playing jazz. By the mid-90s, Ramirez began performing Blues, Funk, and R&B more often than Jazz, partly in aid of his study of the style, and, he admits, partly because the money was better. As the turn-of-the millennium came and went, Ramirez finally got together the quartet that he had always wanted - including a Latin drummer, an R&B guitarist, and a Funk bassist..
