Nick Ayoub

Born:

Ayoub was born in Trois-Rivières, Québec from Lebanon immigrants. He soon moved to Montreal where he started to learn clarinet, tenor saxophone, oboe, english horn and flute. He studied in Montreal Music Conservatory and perfected oboe with Harold Gomberg of New-York Philharmonic Orchestra. He began his career playing with big bands in Montreal like Johnny Holmes Orchestra, Maynard Ferguson or Butch Watanabe. He also featured a couple of times as oboist with the Montreal Symphony Orchestra and accompanied many Quebec prominent singers like Claude Léveillée. He worked a lot as a studio musician and teached jazz to some important Quebec contemporary jazz musicians like Yannick Rieu & François Théberge, now playing all around the world. He never stop playing in clubs in company of musicians like Art Roberts and Al Penfold with whom he recorded The Montreal Scene in 1964. He died in Montreal on May, 2nd 1981
