One of the most exciting and innovative jazz programs in the country, Juilliard Jazz Studies combines education in the history and traditions of the music with unparalleled professional performance opportunities designed to integrate students into a thriving jazz environment. As a jazz student at Juilliard, you will work closely with our dedicated faculty members and enjoy numerous performance opportunities as a member of the Juilliard Jazz Orchestra and smaller ensembles. In addition to performances at Juilliard and Alice Tully Hall, the Juilliard Jazz Orchestra and Juilliard Jazz Ensembles regularly perform at prominent venues and festivals such as Dizzy’s Club Coca-Cola, the Blue Note, New Jersey Performing Arts Center, Juilliard in Aiken (South Carolina),and the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival

William Gati Bom April 1O, 1959, in Rio Di Janeiro, Brazil Initially trained as a classical pianist (he studied at Juilliard from the age of 8), William Gati has been drawn to Jazz while studying with the great John Lewis (Modern Jazz Quartet). After graduating from City College (1981), he has played in various church venues and has been influenced by gospel music. He has also been involved in directing and performing in musicals and has been influences by the Broadway Show style. His greatest strength, however, is in improvising and performing jazz standards and original compositions.
