as a performer and educator frequently performing with regional and international acts.
Hanlon released Follow and Autumn Song, both nominated for Jazz Recording of the Year by the ECMA. He is a
member of Dual Chromatic, who's live album "Into the Pale" is scheduled to be released in the Spring of 2019.
Hanlon is an Assistant Professor of Music at Saint Francis Xavier University in Antigonish Nova Scotia and has
been a member of the Faculty of Music since 2008

Kitty and The Katz
Kitty and the Katz are the musicians that were brought together by Jack Malmstrom for his Jack's Cats project. We were nominated for a Music Nova Scotia Award, performed at the Halifax Jazz Festival, recorded a live album at the Music Room, won Bronze in The Coast's Jazz Group" category,were interviewed by The Chronicle Herald's Stephen Cooke and CBC TV's Colleen Jones, and performed gigs around Halifax from 2012- 2014. Now that Jack has decided to return to his roots in California, we've decided we like playing together so much that we're regrouping as Kitty and the Katz

Daniel Matto

Florian Hoefner

Born and raised in Germany, trained in New York City and now based in Canada, jazz pianist and composer, Florian Hoefner, draws from a myriad of influences that culminate in his unique brand of modern jazz. Praised as a “composer-bandleader of insightful resolve” by the New York Times and a “harmonically daring pianist […] reaching toward new sonic territory” by Downbeat, Florian Hoefner has made his mark as an inventive creator and performer of exciting contemporary Jazz.
With the Florian Hoefner Group, he has released 3 albums on Origin Records that have received rave reviews around the globe. “Luminosity,” his latest release, has been described as a “starkly picturesque album [...] that makes profound statements from quiet moments” by Downbeat, as “the real deal” by Jazz Journal (UK) and as a “total experience” by the New York Jazz Record. Featuring tenor saxophonist Seamus Blake, this record has been his most ambitious project so far. It has been nominated as Jazz Recording of the Year at the East Coast Music Awards 2017. With the quartet, he maintains a busy touring schedule that has included over 100 performances in Europe and North America to date. After their performance at the Montréal Jazz Festival 2015, Hoefner was awarded the Stingray Rising Star Award.

Nick Halley
Born:
Born in New York City, and raised in the grounds of the city’s Cathedral of St. John the Divine (where his father, Paul Halley, was Director of Music), Nick Halley’s earliest memories are of the rich variety of music there, from sacred choral to contemporary jazz and African dance. These early influences proved to be lasting. Nick majored in jazz and classical percussion at Interlochen Arts Academy in Michigan and spent a year studying and performing in Brazil prior to returning to New York City to The New School University’s jazz and contemporary music program. There he studied with Amir Ziv, Billy Hart, and Jamey Haddad, and entered into long- lasting musical friendships with some of the great young musicians in New York’s ever-evolving jazz scene. Nick tours and records with groups ranging in style from traditional Scottish and Irish to gospel, jazz, Brazilian and popular music, including The Chris Norman Ensemble, various Paul Halley ensembles, and his own recently- formed Nick Halley Band

Adam Fine
Born:
Torontonian Adam S. Fine had long planned to be a jazz double bassist. Picking-up and moving to Halifax for no particular reason in 2000 quickly changed the plan. Fine was surprised to quickly find himself as a popular sideman in the local Halifax indie-country-rock scene. Fine founded [now sadly defunct] Country/R&B collective The Hurtin' Unit with Becky Siamon, RJ Donovan and Daniel "Bucky" Baugh. Fine currently works with country singer-songwriter Andy Cull and The Fancy Lebanese Country Band, as well as rising star Norma MacDonald. He's also been found playing salsa with Alma Latina, Chester's pop favourite Jamie Junger and local folk luminary Al Tuck as well as bluegrass/blues picker Darren Arsenault and rocker Tyler Messick and the Museum Pieces

Shan Arsenault
Shan Arsenault, jazz guitarist, composer and educator was born in Prince Edward Island and raised in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Inspired by his mother's playing, he took up the guitar at age seven. Mostly self-taught, Shan has spent many years cultivating a unique sound. Over his long career, Shan has performed as a side man with countless musicians earning the reputation of a first-call player. Among the many artists he has performed with are Jeff Healy, Doug Mallory, Doug (Dr. Music) Riley, Jerry Granelli, Terry Hattie, Alfie Zappacosta, Dutch Mason, Kirk MacDonald, Lorne Lofsky, Skip Beckwith, Don Palmer, Chris Mitchell, Joe Sealy, Francois Houle, Han Bennink and the Paul Cram Sextet
