Born:

A pupil of a pupil of the great George Benson, and native of Pittsburgh Pa., Eric’s brother, Kennard, taught him guitar basics at the age of 10. “George Benson was Ken’s first teacher….. they were childhood friends, along with another guitar great from Pittsburgh; Jimmy Ponder. "Even though I was more interested in sports as a kid, I’ve always around music, and musicians, thanks to Ken”. I can remember at one point, Phyliss Hyman was the lead singer in his band”. At the age of 12, Eric moved to Detroit where he continued to excelled in sports: track, baseball, football, and basketball, which became his main sport
