Bernard Scavella

As a teenager, Bernard Scavella started his music career studying with the great Joe Henderson. Thanks in large part to Henderson's influences, Scavella also had the opportunity to perform alongside Billy Cobham and George Cables, as a co-founder of the New York City-based group, The Jazz Samaritans. Other artists include: Clark Terry, George Coleman, Clint Houston, Frieda Lee, The Freeman Brothers, Johnny Hartman, John Wright, Jodie Christian, Freddie Cole, Marlene Rosenberg, Charles Heath, Larry Gray, Chuck Webb, Henry Johnson, Curtis Robinson, Robert Shy and Charlie Johnson. Having honed his skills as a band leader and sideman, Scavella served as the principle arranger and saxophonist of the jazz group The Groovemasters during the 1970s and '80s.
