Here’s a baker’s dozen of previously released Christmas material by Rosemary Clooney, issued on the North Star label. The fine print indicates that this “compilation” is copyright Concord Records. However, this program seems to be 13 of the 21 songs on Clooney’s Concord CD, “White Christmas.” So, naturally, I would recommend choosing the Concord CD in order to get the remaining eight songs.
Packaging concerns aside, if you love Rosie, you’ll love this. All of her stylistic traits are here. Her voice sports her controlled waver, and she tends to over-enunciate words. She’s casual and warm, like an old friend. The most amusing thing is her occasional changing of the lyrics. For example, on “Let It Snow”:
When we finally say ‘bon nuit’
How I’ll hate going out in the sleet
But if you really care for me
Come on-a my house and warm up my feet!
Oh the fire burned down to embers
But at our age – who remembers?
But as long as you love me so
Let it snow! Let it snow! Let it snow!
