Bourbon Street to Broadway
The Dixieland Ramblers (2002)

By Gary Griffey
Comments

Bourbon Street to Broadway is a steaming collection of show tunes performed in true Dixieland fashion by a group that has proved more than capable of doing so. The Dixieland Ramblers, a group created by clarinetist Mike Bennett and drummer Tom Stevenson while the two were in high school, features a cast of extremely talented musicians who can work seeming magic with their instruments. A prime example of this is the third cut, "76 Trombones" from The Music Man with amazing solo trombone work ! A great example of how its supposed to sound when a musician really gets in a grove and clicks with their instrument.

Other great cuts on the album: The opener, "Give My Regards to Broadway," written by George M. Cohan and made nearly infamous by James Cagney in the movie based on the live of Cohan, "Yankee Doodle Dandy."

With treatments of music from "My Fair Lady," "Showboat" and "Bye Bye Birdie," there is a great chance you'll hear a song with which you can sing along, and very likely enjoy the album as a whole.
