Le Supercool
Elliott Caine | EJC Music

By John Gilbert
Comments

'Millennium Montuno' ..A nice, easygoing Latin tune featuring Michael Rose's idea filled solo and Caine's strong trumpet effort. 'Bop-a-Licious'..And it bops along happily with a cool Baritone solo by Peter Aplanalp coupled with Manning's Coltrane like Tenor trip. 'Past Imperfect'...Charlie Parker would have loved the brush work by Drummer Willie McNeil on this number, Bird said the brushes should embrace the snare on ballads. This was impeccable Drum accompaniment, An extraordinary Trumpet solo by Caine, exquisitely constructed, it was the final ingredient on this fine piece. 'Le Supercool'..This is Elliott Caine at his best, in Be-Bop land, swinging along and reminiscing musically about Clifford Brown a bit...The Bass of Bill Markus came through strongly and Rose's Tenor and Aplanalp's Bari added cool finishing touches. This Disc is getting a lot of air time and deservedly so. Fine production and strong performances make it a most worthwhile addition to any jazz collection. All songs composed and arranged by Elliott Caine, and Caine is sure Able on this one
