Lose Control
Nanette Natal | Benyo Music

By Robert Spencer Discuss

This is a collection of some of the best of vocalist Nanette Natal. If you haven't yet had a chance to sample her silken voice, don't miss this one. Her voice can soar and keen, and lower to a hypnotic whisper. She has an enormous amount of range and soul - more than quite a few other vocalists who are better known.

While the personnel listing on this one is a bit sketchy, she seems to enjoy the considerable talents of Walter Bishop, Jr., on piano and Todd Coolman on bass for most of the tracks. Whoever this pianist and bassist are, they are first-rate, and they capably underscore Natal's passionate approach.

There is heat here: "Ice Fire." There's also good fun: "Be Bop a Lu La" and "Blue Suede Shoes." The former is taken at a high-energy disco pace, with Natal's voice standing alone against the drumbeat. The latter is a bit more straightforwardly relaxed and playful, but no less high-voltage.

Nanette Natal. Don't miss out.
