About the music Jason reviews
Very little focus is given to one of my favorite jazz sub-genres in the mainstream jazz press. In fact, I'm not even sure it has a title, but I like to
call it "pocket jazz" or "funk-fusion." It encompasses a variety of approaches
which share one underlying facet, a strong reliance on the rhythm section
laying down a strong groove. Examples include John Scofield, Joe Sample, Jeff
Lorber, and others. While these artists are routinely reviewed, rarely is the
focus on their "groove" presentation.
