Read "Covers" reviewed by Jack Bowers

Covers is a quartet date in which New York-based tenor saxophonist Lucas Pino “covers" half a dozen generally pleasing songs written by his contemporaries, alongside one each by Charlie Parker ("Relaxin' at Camarillo") and Duke Pearson ("New Girl"). Molly Mahoney

I'll conserve my words and avoid giving the full spiel, but Molly Mahoney is more than a client to me. She's the answer to vocal jazz's future, the logical next step from Nicole Henry and Madeleine Peyroux. The crossover artist with a classical voice is releasing a tribute album of sorts, but it's a bit different—it's a tribute to a cousin, Cole Porter.

Molly grew up in a world she credits for taking her as far as she's gone. She began performing with a traveling big band at age ten and hasn't stopped performing since (save for that whole uncomfortable year before the vaccine)

The Spice Cabinet

Active since:

The answer to Beijing’s party-cum-creative music scene, the Spice Cabinet, let by keyboardist Terry Hsieh blends Funk, Bebop, R&B, and even Spaghetti Westerns to form a worldview that is epic and playful in its explorations, known as "Deathbop". Born from the mind of veteran session musician and jazz trombonist Terry Hsieh during the beginning of his 8-year voyage to Beijing, The Spice Cabinet represents the handshake of cultures when people of vastly different backgrounds bond together over the shared love of jazz and pop music. Their style combines the cinematic orchestration, multiculturalism, rambunctious energy and production value of a pop concert, with the intense focus and virtuosity of their shared background in jazz improvisation
