Most notably he is widely considered to be the father of the "crowdfunding" model by forming ArtistShare in September, 2000. ArtistShare is a music industry business model where the fans fund the creation of new recordings and the artist is paid before the recording is released. To this date ArtistShare Artists have received a total of 11 GRAMMY awards and 32 GRAMMY nominations since 2004.
