Michel Portal: MP85

Read "MP85" reviewed by Giuseppe Segala

Together they explore fresh compositions injected by the inspiring poems of Peter Verhelst, a unique, stubborn writer embracing life with all its dark mysteries. LABtrio

Active since:

LABtrio (Lander – Anneleen – Bram) are three musicians with strong personalities, endowed with a fresh and adventurous approach to music. The trio’s acoustic universe conceals an urban jazz that flirts with electronic, underground and hip-hop cultures. Since the Trio’s founding in 2007, they have received several awards and prizes (including a superb double – Audience Prize and Grand Prize – at the prestigious Avignon ‘Tremplin Jazz’ festival in 2011). Thanks to this price, they recorded their first album at the Studio la Buissone, Pernes-les fontaines in France. Their first album “Fluxus” released in October 2013 (Outhere records) – a real gem – constitutes testimony to what is the jazz of today, seen by this new generation of musicians. In 2014, LABtrio participated at the 12 points festival in Umeå, and received a lot of positive feedback

LABtrio: Nature City

Read "Nature City" reviewed by Henning Bolte

When you consider the ages of the musicians of this trio from Belgium (26, 28 and 30 years) you notice it is a young group. When you take into account the decade these three musicians, bassist Anneleen Boehme, drummer Lander Gyselinck and pianist Bram de Looze, have been working together, you can only come to the ...

Myriam Alter: Crossways

Read "Crossways" reviewed by John Ephland

There's a soulful melancholy to much of this music. Composer/pianist Myriam Alter has created yet another collection of her songs that have the potential to evoke feelings of yearning, sadness and perhaps a deep buried joy with Crossways. Akin to a previous outing on enja, the elegiac Where Is There, Crossways can be heard as a ...

Simon Jermyn’s Trot A Mouse: Pictorial Atlas Of Mammals

Read "Pictorial Atlas Of Mammals" reviewed by Henning Bolte

At times the music of an album can be strikingly different from common and even one's own perceptional mental grids and might challenge one's own horizon of expectation. This album is not only a clear example of it. It is unusual and fascinating how adversative, contrastive features are balanced out in its music: rough and gentle, ...
