Vangthanousone Bouaphanh

Vangthanousone Bouaphanh was born in Vientiane, the capital city of Laos. He only took up the guitar aged 21, after hearing some recorded jazz in a friend's bar. Initially attracted to bossa nova, especially {{m: Antonio Carlos Jobim = 8063}}, Vangthanousone soon became fascinated by straight ahead jazz, and began to study and play the music of saxophonists {{m: John Coltrane = 5851}} and {{m: Charlie Parker = 10115}}.

As a guitarist, his main influence is {{m: Pat Martino = 3225}}, though he is also inspired by {{m: Wes Montgomery = 9528}} and {{m: George Benson = 3789}}, and is familiar with the music of {{m: Bill Frisell = 6859}} and {{m: John Scofield = 4151}}amongst others.
