Danielle Reich
Jazz vocalist Danielle Reich doesn't consider herself in an exclusive relationship with the genre - she starts with a foundation of jazz standards, then draws freely from an eclectic array of French chanson (a la Edith Piaf), the gypsy swing repertoire (a la Django Reinhardt), and jazz-interpreted pop selections including everything from Leonard Cohen to Radiohead to The Cars. Audiences are delighted by Danielle's pure vocal presence and straight-from-the-heart interpretation, and fellow performers enjoy her intensely musical instincts.

Danielle Reich: While We Were Dancing
by C. Michael Bailey
The Austin Texas satellite of the Houston Jazz Mafia, vocalist Danielle Reich, follows her debut recording This Year's Kisses (Self Produced, 2011) with a stripped-down recital right out of the heart of the Great American Songbook. Reich pares down her piano-led standard hard bop quintet to a guitar-driven (capably played by Mitch Watkins) trio. Less is ...
Henry Darragh: Too Much Monday
by C. Michael Bailey
My introduction to Houston Jazz came with the receipt of Jacqui Sutton's Billie & Dolly (Toy Blue Typewriter Productions, 2010). A few short months later, I received Henry Darragh's Tell Her for Me (Self Produced, 2011). When I compared the musical personnel for each of these recordings, a light came on in my pea brain alerting ...

The Houston jazz mafia expands with vocalist Raquel Cepeda's I'm Confessin'. Cepeda adds eloquently to a ...
Tianna Hall: Sid, Barney, Duke & Billy
by C. Michael Bailey
Jazz vocalist Tianna Hall calls Houston, TX home. At first blush, one might consider Houston a hub for the oil industry, barbecue, and country music, but not one for jazz. However, Houston has a long history with the music dating to the age of the territory bands and the Chitlin' Circuit" existing between the late '20s ...
Alisha's Quartet: Along for the Ride
by C. Michael Bailey
Alisha Pattillo's tenor saxophone case sports an impressive variety of destination stickers, real and metaphorical, where the young artist has visited in her life. Anglo-Australian, Patillo was raised in Singapore and proceeded to woodshed throughout Southeast Asia before receiving a first-rate schooling at Australia's Queensland Conservatorium of Music in Brisbane, majoring in jazz saxophone and education ...

Houston, Texas is the oil capital of the United States. It is also, in 2011, becoming a jazz mecca ready to take on New Orleans, Chicago and New York City. Danielle Reich: This Year’s Kisses
by C. Michael Bailey
There is something strange going on in Houston, Texas. It must be the heat and humidity, stimulating the fecund creative jazz spirits that give rise to the likes of Larry Slezak (No Worries (Self Produced, 2009)), Jacqui Sutton (Billie & Dolly (Self Produced, 2010)), Henry Darragh Tell Her More Me (A-Train Creative, 2010)), and, now vocalist ...
