Giovanni Mirabassi Trio: Summer's Gone

Read "Summer's Gone" reviewed by Neri Pollastri

Gerry Gibbs Thrasher People: Our People

Read "Our People" reviewed by Jack Bowers

Our People, the twelfth album as leader by multi-instrumentalist Gerry Gibbs, is difficult to describe and even harder to pigeonhole. Is it jazz? Not really. Is it world music? Sometimes. And sometimes even other-worldly. Stream of consciousness? Perhaps, but always with a specific plan in mind. Tone poems? Only in the sense that there are times ...

MJ Territo Ladies Day Jolly Molly Records 2017 Vocalist Mj Territo celebrates all things women on her ambitious and overdue Ladies Day. Laura Campisi: Double Mirror

Read "Double Mirror" reviewed by Jerome Wilson

Contemporary jazz vocalists tend to fall into two camps, those who follow the jazz singer tradition of Ella, Billie, Sarah and the other icons and those who experiment with their sound and repertoire. The latter group includes people like Elizabeth Shepherd, Katie Bull and Rebecca Martin. Laura Campisi is another name you can add to that ...

Read "Status Cymbals" reviewed by Dan Bilawsky

Drummer Bruce Cox may not be a household name in the jazz world, but he's studied, played and/or recorded with plenty of people who are. The Philadelphia-born stick-wielder gleaned plenty of wisdom through his lessons with drumming icons Philly Joe Jones and Alan Dawson, and he's put that knowledge to good use by backing the greats ...

Captain Black Big Band: Captain Black Big Band

Read "Captain Black Big Band" reviewed by Bruce Lindsay

The man behind the Captain Black Big Band is pianist Orrin Evans. The ensemble's eponymous debut recording is a CD of such style, musicality and instrumental power that it seems only right to ensure that Evans gets the credit upfront. This is straight-ahead, swinging, big band music, recorded at three live performances in New York and ...
