3 Cohens

The 3Cohen Siblings, Yuval, Anat and Avishai, have had a very similar musical path. Growing up in Tel-Aviv under the same roof, attending the same day schools and the same music Conservatory in the afternoons, have helped shape their musical taste, approach and ideas. They Attended the Tel-Aviv School for the Arts, the "Thelma Yalin" high school for the arts and the "Jaffa" Music conservatory. The 3Cohens had a classical music background that included some symphonic orchestral playing. But it didn't take long before the 3 discovered their life long love to jazz music. And then there was Berklee College of Music

Read "Tightrope" reviewed by Angelo Leonardi

Read "Dan Bilawsky's Best Releases Of 2013" reviewed by Dan Bilawsky

The annual rite of writing a “best of" list at All About Jazz is a most pleasurable and difficult task; pleasurable for the reflections on great art that come along with the task and difficult because of the need to make hard choices. I've been inspired by dozens of new jazz recordings this year, but I've ...

Read "Tightrope" reviewed by Dan Bilawsky

It shouldn't come as a shock that the 3 Cohens stress the idea of interconnectedness in their music; soprano saxophonist Yuval Cohen, multi-reedist Anat Cohen and trumpeter Avishai Cohen are, after all, blood. With albums like One (Anzic, 2004), Braid (Anzic, 2007) and Family (Anzic, 2011), these three horn-playing siblings have made it clear that they're ...

Read "Triveni II" reviewed by Dan Bilawsky

Trumpeter Avishai Cohen had already reached the upper echelons of the jazz world when he put Triveni into motion, but this trio's debut--Introducing Triveni (Anzic Records, 2010)--still managed to mark a quantum leap in his artistry. The Israeli-born horn man first made stateside ripples when he placed third in the Thelonious Monk Jazz Trumpet Competition in ...

Jazz has proven, time and time again, that the bonds of family feed the creative soul.
