Adam Cordero

Born: November 18, 1999

New York native Adam Cordero is a saxophonist, composer, educator, environmentalist, and multi- instrumentalist based in Queens, New York. His dedication to music has led him to play at the most established jazz venues in the NYC area such as The Jazz Gallery, Smalls Jazz Club, Roulette Intermedium, Bar Next Door, and Williamsburg Music Center. Adam has also performed internationally for a week-long engagement at the Bern Jazz Festival, held in Switzerland. Adam’s quintet, “Arcadia” strives to unite people in the need to preserve our environment. "Arcadia" holds a yearly benefit concert— their most recent benefit event on December 22nd, 2022 was held as a streamable concert, and it raised hundreds of dollars for Eden Reforestation Projects. In 2022, Adam's career as a bassoonist led him to collaborate with avant-garde jazz legend & Pulitzer Prize winner, Henry Threadgill for his multimedia project "The Other One" which was performed/recorded live at Roulette Intermedium and released as an album in 2023. Adam has shared the stage with other incredible artists such as Morgan Guerin, Alfredo Colon, Ingrid Jensen, David Virelles, and Tyshawn Sorey. Adam was named a National YoungArts Foundation Winner in 2018 and in 2019, he performed and was broadcast on the East Coast's premier jazz radio station, WBGO. In addition to playing saxophones & bassoon primarily, Adam also plays clarinet, bass clarinet, and flute.

Melissa Pipe

Melissa Pipe is a baritone saxophonist, bassoonist, composer and arranger who lives in Montreal. 

As well as leading her own quintet and sextet, she performs regularly with jazz, hip hop, indie, and classical ensembles as a freelancer. A versatile player and writer, she has written for small group, chamber ensemble, big band and symphony orchestra.

Makanda Ken McIntyre

Born: September 7, 1931

World-renowned multi-instrumentalist, composer, orchestrator and educator Makanda Ken McIntyre was a tireless musical innovator for nearly half a century, with 12 albums and more than 600 compositions and arrangements to his credit. His works include compositions for woodwind quartets, chamber ensembles, jazz bands, and full orchestra, as well as hundreds of lead sheets. He composed ballads, calypsos, bebop, avant-garde and the blues. Makanda was known primarily for leading his own ensembles — performing on alto saxophone, flute, bass clarinet, oboe and bassoon — and being proficient on more than 16 instruments, including bass, drums and piano

Milan Turkovic

Milan Turkovic originates from an Austro-Croatian family, grew up in Vienna and became internationally known as one of the few bassoon soloists. Over the past two decades, he has become a most successful conductor, making appearances all over the world. Dana Jessen

Born: 1983

Hailed as a “bassoon virtuoso” (Chicago Reader) and 2023 Cleveland Arts Prize winner, Dana Jessen tirelessly seeks to expand the boundaries of her instrument through original compositions, improvisations, and collaborative work with innovative artists. Over the past decade, she has presented dozens of world premiere performances throughout North America and Europe while maintaining equal footing in the creative music community as an improviser. Her solo performances are almost entirely grounded in electroacoustic composition that highlight her distinct musical language. As a chamber musician, Dana is the co-founder of the contemporary reed quintet Splinter Reeds, and has performed with Alarm Will Sound, Amsterdam’s DOEK Collective, the San Francisco Contemporary Music Players, and the Tri-Centric Ensemble, among many others

Claire de Brunner

laire de Brunner first played the bassoon at the age of 14, and was soon awarded a scholarship to study with the principal bassoonist of the NY Philharmonic and to attend the Dalcroze School of Music. She later attended the High School of Music and Art where she earned a scholarship to study at North Carolina School of the Arts. She went on to study with Stephen Maxym at the Manhattan School of Music and played in various orchestras and chamber ensembles before deciding to venture beyond the classical arena. In the 1980s she answered an ad in the Village Voice, which called for a musician who loved Kafka, Captain Beefheart and Lennie Tristano, having no idea who the latter two were at that time, and shortly thereafter became a founding member of 101 Crustaceans, an integral band of the post-punk era in NYC

Sara Schoenbeck

Sara Schoenbeck is a bassoonist who dedicates herself to expanding the sound and role of the bassoon in the worlds of classical, contemporary notated and improvised music. The Wire magazine places her in the "tiny club of bassoon pioneers" at work in contemporary music today and the New York Times has called her performances "galvanizing" and "riveting, mixing textural experiments with a big, confident sound.” Originally from California, Sara spent her time on the west coast freelancing in various orchestral bassoon sections such as Santa Barbara Symphony, California Symphony, Redlands, Mancini Orchestra, the Dakah Hip Hop Orchestra and touring as a member of creative music ensembles Gravitas Quartet with Wayne Horvitz, Ron Miles and Peggy Lee, Anthony Braxton’s 12+1(tet) and Vinny Golia’s Large Ensemble
