Mark Hagan’s early years were spent in and around the Detroit area were he first developed an interest in music and jazz in particular. “Some of my earliest memories are of going to classical concerts with my parents. Then around the age of ten I heard the playing of a local bassist James Jameson and there was no turning back. From Motown it did not take long before I was listening to jazz. I remember walking to elementary school in the morning with this be-bop solo going on in my head and it would still be there when I got home at the end of the day”.
