Jonathan Whitney

“We are the light.” Jonathan Whitney, the drummer, the composer, the father, and the artivist is a native Delawarean. After attending the University of the Delaware, where he received his degree in Music Education, Jonathan took a position as band director at the Tatnall School for 11 years. In 2013, he moved on to attend the University of the Arts in Philadelphia where he received a Master's in Jazz Studies. He then joined the Delaware Institute for the Arts in Education, first as a teaching artist and then as artistic director. Following his time at DIAE, Jonathan took on the position of manager of performance programs and community engagement at the Delaware Art Museum which allowed him to bring together his two passions, the arts and connecting people to create positive change in our communities

Garnering International acclaim in the jazz and R&B world throughout Europe, Africa, the U.S. and Asia, Heshima Moja is an incredibly dynamic individual. As a Bassist, Vocalist. Percussionist, Composer/Songwriter, Music Director, and Cultural Arts Presenter, Heshima has moved audiences around the world with his soulful voice, fiery bass licks, and unforgettable songs and compositions. Heavily influenced by Jazz, Afro-Cuban Rumba, Hip-Hop and R&B, he has been touching audiences with his brand of Diaspora Jazz. Throughout his impressive career, Heshima has composed music for Nickelodeon, PBS, and various films throughout Latin America, and has released two C.D.’s, The Awakening(2017) and Round and Round (2011), which still remain in heavy rotation throughout Europe and Asia
