Musician

Cara Auratus

Jazz is Cara's passion. It's an aural art form, one that can't be learned fully from books or charts. The best teacher is the sound itself - this was her primary mentor. Old 78s and LPs and performances. She began singing in Texas and Louisiana while still too young to legally get into the bars. Old enough to connect with the music, vamp with a tune, collaborate with a quartet and deliver a song that audiences loved. Always drawn to the incredible era of early jazz from the 20s and 30s, her primary influences include Alberta Hunter, Mildred Bailey, the Boswell Sisters, Anita O'Day, Chris Connor, Hoagy Carmichael and Jack Teagarden
