Christine Guter (Helferich)
Christine Guter is a jazz vocalist and studio singer in Los Angeles, California.
About Me
Christine Guter (Helferich) is a jazz vocalist, pianist, and studio singer. She has a full, rich
voice of great range and versatility. Christine mainly works as a jazz vocalist, but performs
all types of musical styles including classical, pop/rock, musical theater, country, and
blues. She has performed extensively at concerts, festivals, colleges, and other venues in
the United States, Canada, and Europe.
Christine has worked with many legendary musicians including Rosemary Clooney, Joe
Williams, Diane Schuur, Maynard Ferguson, Mercer Ellington, Lionel Hampton, Mel Torme,
and Bobby McFerrin. She has also toured internationally with the Dorsey Then and Now
Orchestra.
Christine has worked extensively in studio settings since 1990, and has sung on
Hollywood soundtracks including X-Men 3, Superman Returns, Charlotte's Web, Beowulf,
and Happy Feet. She is a member of the Screen Actors Guild (SAG), and the American
Federation of Television and Radio Artists (AFTRA). She also sings in the internationally
renowned jazz ensemble, Vocalogy.
An extraordinary teacher and clinician, Christine is active nationally as a guest conductor,
lecturer, adjudicator, and clinician. She has presented numerous clinics and performance
demonstrations for music education organizations and conferences. Christine is a member
of the International Association of Jazz Education (IAJE), California Music Educators
Association (CMEA), Music Educator's National Conference (MENC), and American Choral
Directors Association (ACDA). She has been a clinician for vocal jazz festivals and
workshops in New York, Colorado, Iowa, Illinois, Nebraska, Idaho, Arizona, Nevada,
Wyoming, and California. She has also been involved with the NARAS Foundation as
director of the Grammy Jazz Choir in Miami and San Francisco.
Christine is currently the Director of Vocal Jazz at California State University Long Beach,
where she teaches private jazz voice, and directs the university's top vocal jazz ensemble.
