Kasumi Uraguchi

About Me

Kasumi Uraguchi was born on November 26th, 1986 and grew up in Kumamoto City, Japan. Kasumi's musical journey began when she started playing the piano at the age of four. She began playing the trumpet in her early teens as a member of her middle school's brass band and after graduating her junior high school, she entered Luther music high school where she focused in classical performance on trumpet. While studying classical trumpet performance, she began studying different aspects of music such as advanced harmony and ear training.

Soon afterwards, Kasumi became interested in various methods of management. When she became the president of her brass band in the third year of her high school, she successfully introduced new practice habits and group enthusiasm/trust that greatly improved the ensembles performance. After the major improvement Kasumi brought to her brass band, the ensemble received a silver prize and Kasumi herself received the “Persons of Cultural Merit” award from the Kumamoto State federation of culture. During the same period, Kasumi became a member of the famous Kumamoto Youth Symphony Orchestra. Upon graduation, she received a prestigious award from the school district for making a substantial positive influence on the Luther music high school brass band. This was a really great impact for her music career, as it gave her the confidence to move forward in a music career.

In September 2005, she entered the world famous Berklee College of Music, studying Contemporary Music and Production major with the help of a scholarship earned from the Asia World Scholarship Tour. She also received the Berklee College of Music Professional Writing Awards (Wind Ensemble Achievement) in Spring 2007. Upon graduating Berklee College of Music in 2008, Kasumi has engaged herself in many platforms. Starting as a hobby that had developed through high school, Kasumi has thrown herself to the forefront of the Boston modern dance scene, as she is frequently seen engaging in a multitude of opportunities. Kasumi has even organized her own dance event, and mix the entire music used in the show. Aside from her dance career, Kasumi has kept busy by playing jazz and lounge music in various ensembles, such as trios and duets. Today, Kasumi is exploring every opportunity to play trumpet. With the amount of exposure the music scene sees of Kasumi, it is not long before this extraordinary player reaches the forefront of music performance
