Emanuele Maniscalco

About Me

I was born in Brescia (Italy) in 1983 and started studying classical piano at the age of 8. When I turned 12, I started studying drums as a self-taught. I discovered jazz at 16, and started studying jazz harmony and improvisation with composer-arranger Corrado Guarino (now jazz teacher at the Conservatory in Brescia). In 2001 I started playing in trio with bassist Giulio Corini and pianist Oscar Grazioli. We attended the Biennial High Qualification Course for trio, promoted by Siena Jazz, between 2001 and 2003: the teachers were Stefano Battaglia (piano), Paolino Dalla Porta (bass) and Fabrizio Sferra (drums). In 2001 I attended the Berklee Summer Clinics in Perugia, during the Umbria Jazz Festival, where I obtained a “recognition for outstanding musicianship”.

In summer 2003 I attended the Jazz Masterclasses in Siena, and won a scolarship to go to the 14th IASJ Meeting (International Association of Schools of Jazz), which took place in Freiburg (Germany) in May 2004. In November 2003 the “wb3” trio (Walter Beltrami, Roberto Bordiga, E. Maniscalco) won the “Incroci Sonori Jazz” prize, which consisted in a production for the Italian jazz label Philology.

I live in Cazzago S. Martino (BS). I play with Stefano Battaglia (in trio and quartet) in the Permanent Musical Research Laboratories at Siena Jazz School.

I had the opportunity to play gigs with musicians like Stefano Battaglia, Sandro Gibellini, Franco Cerri, Enrico Intra, Guido Bombardieri, Carlo Atti, Beppe Caruso, Robert Bonisolo, Riccardo Zegna, Bibi Rov
