Pseudo Jazz Critic with a penchant for ECM, Rune Grammofon, Tzadik and all forms of out-jazz/metal/rock/ambient/electronica!
I came to the world of Jazz a few years back through slightly predictable
means; looking for something new and refreshing outside of the
traditional avenues of independent punk and angular experimental rock I
felt I had all but explored. It was a daunting prospect knowing where to
begin, but I luckily stumbled across this fine site and was able to get
ample help in discovering Jazz that was more suited to my palate
through the forums. Upon purchasing my first releases from the glorious
ECM label and a few titles from Atavistics FMP reissue series, a whole
new world opened up to me. Jazz started to make sense. My tastes
since have gone on to devour musics as diverse as minimal electronica,
ambient dub, world music and avant-garde classical music, largely due
to the fluidity of the Jazz I have encountered. It is my hope that I can
turn on at least a handful of those visiting a site down a similar path of
enlightenment. I know, very modest of me!
Aside from writing the occasional record review, I am involved in
Manchester based promotion Fat Out Till You Pass Out, but on a variety
of outsider music, from crushing doom metal to otherworldly psychedelia.
I am an active musician in a variety of projects (mainly experimental
guitar music,) touring and recording as regularly as possible. If your
remotely interested in hearing some of these projects, let alone anything.
