Karen Segal

Wes Montgomery & Thelonlius Monk walk into Pat Metheny's club where Carlos Santana is jamming with John McLaughlin. Voila! Presenting Karen Segal!

About Me

I learned extended chords and music theory as a teenager from Dean Brown in Boston. I learned how to stretch out and listen by playing free jazz with Marilyn Mazur and Suzanne Fasteau in Copenhagen, Denmark. I learned 100 of jazz standards from Cedric West in London. I learned about co-leading a band with David Brown in Los Angeles with the acid-jazz band “Red Clay.” I learned how to make the most of my practice and playing time by raising my daughter (now 7). I have been composing and leading my own band in San Francisco for the past 5 years. I have taught and continue to teach band and general music to hundreds of children and adults.
