My jazz experienced started as youngster/teenager at the barbershop. My barber listened the local jazz station on public radio, and I would be forced to sit in the shop for hours listening to this stuff. Around this time my cousin had turned me on to Herbie Hancock, Stanley Clarke and David Sanborn because of their R & B influence. Well as I began to dig the music these guys were putting out, and I found listening to the jazz station became a lot more enjoyable. I really enjoyed the ballads of Miles around the age of 16 and I have more of an appreciation for Miles and his approach to music.

I come from a family that has such a broad spope of listening. From my mother listening to blues, closest cousins listening to everthing from Hendrix to Al Jarreau to Funkadelic. There was always music in the background at any gathering, and I was always interested in the music that we were listening. As I began to explore Miles Davis' music, I began to appreciate jazz even more. My selections of favorite artist and songs began to expand. As a child, never in my wildest dream would I have guessed I would really dig John Coltrane, Nat King Cole and Sarah Vaughn.
