Greg Poppleton

From Another Time

About Me

Hi, I’m Greg Poppleton, Australia’s only authentic 1920s-30s singer – 1.3 million total YouTube views and 8 albums.

When I was 3 I saw Louis Armstrong on TV. Hooked on 1920s – 1930s jazz and swing ever since.

The band and I bring the era to life. Your event will be a dazzling Hollywood experience. Think vintage glamour, prohibition and speakeasies.

Sold out shows for the Sydney Festival (twice), Waiheke International Jazz Festival (NZ), annual Great Art Deco Ball and more.

On radio I bring you the award-winning Phantom Dancer live swing jazz show heard on 20 stations and online.

In movies you may have seen me with Nicole Kidman in Moulin Rouge! and with Adrien Brody and John Goodman. On TV, in Barons (ABC), The Last Days of the Space Age (Disney +), Year Of (Stan) and many more.

Albums are available on Bandcamp, CDBaby, Apple iTunes and Spotify.

“It would take an extremely jaded heart not to smile and tap your feet, much less dance around the room, to Greg Poppleton,”
 - Budd Kopman, All About Jazz (U.S.A)

“Last year at the Melbourne Jazz Festival and the Thredbo Jazz Festival I saw some great acts. I made Greg Poppleton an offer to play at the Waiheke International Jazz Festival ON THE SPOT,”
- John Quigley, Director, Waiheke International Jazz Festival

My Jazz Story

I caught the jazz bug age three seeing Louis Armstrong on TV. To my parent’s despair I had no interest in contemporary popular music. So I'm totally uninfluenced by it.   My passion is jazz and swing from the 1920s and 1930s It lead me to sing and put together a jazz band and orchestra specialising in Swing Era and Jazz Age music. I interpret the songs my own way, in an Australian accent. Like a good horse rider galloping down the hill, I give the excellent musicians I work with free rein to express themselves. Often the only thing 1920s-30s purests hear in my music is my voice. It's the way I naturally sing. having always listened to 1920s-30s music. Naturally.   I'm an award-winning jazz broadcaster. My weekly Phantom Dancer show, a weekly non-stop mix of swing and jazz from live 1920s-50s radio & TV broadcasts, is sent to 30 radio stations across Australia on the Community Radio Network.
