Tonino Miano – pianist/composer
After a five year break from music dedicated to pursue a B.S. in Physics
at the City College of New York, pianist/composer Tonino Miano's return
to audible endeavors has been marked by four releases on his own
Impressus Records label, and a few others in store.
Has performed in venues such as NYU, Knitting Factory, WKCR,
Roulette, Binnenpret, Apollohuis, Stork Music Festival and his list of
collaborations include Mirio Cosottini, Andrea Melani, Dinu Ghezzo,
Edoardo Marraffa, Frantz Loriot, Jaap Blonk, Marco Cappelli, Lorenzo
Brusci, Alessio Pisani and Jim Pugliese.
He also holds a Degree in Musicology from the University of Bologna
and a Degree in Classical Piano Performance with maximum honors
from the V. Bellini Conservatory in Caltanissetta (Italy). He lives and
teaches in New York since 1993, and he has been the co-curator of the
AVANT POST, a New York monthly series dedicated to avant
garde/improvisational music hosted by Temple M.
Mr. Miano’s last release (CARDINAL-Grimedia/Impressus, 2009) has
received critical acclaim and has appeared in two European top ten lists,
as well as being included in the list of most notable CDs of the decade
by AllAboutJazz/Italia.
