Chris Weigers

He is a veteran New York bass player comfortable in many musical environments.

About Me

Chris has been a professional bassist in the New York area for 30 years. He studied with Richard Davis privately and at SUNY Old Westbury under Makanda Ken McIntyre,earning a B.A. in 1982. He recorded two albums with the pioneering east-west group “Lothlorien” in 1980 & 1983. He continued plying in various groups such as Paula Atherton, The Jim Pin Band, and The Zen Tricksters throughout the 1990's. Since 2001 he has entered the “ska- jazz” scene performing with New York Ska-Jazz Ensemble and Eastern Standard Time. In 2004 he released his debut CD as a leader “Horizons” featuring his compositions and several musician friends including Chris Palmaro, Tony Beard, Don Celenza, Steve Salerno, Frank Bellucci, Paavo Carey, Jim Palmer, and Bill Heler as well as members of NYSJE. In 2007 he formed his own group, “ArushA” and released the CD “Look Up” which was co=produced with Yellowjacket Jimmy Haslip. The band includes Mala Waldron, Michael Amendola, Shawn Murray, Victor Burks, Dave Diamond, and Uli Binetsch. Special guests include Bob Mintzer, Robben Ford, Russell Ferrante, Chris Palmaro, John Scarpulla, and Mark Paquin.
