Yaron Elyashiv

About Me

For a long time Modern Jazz has been misrepresented to the public as music for musicians. With a fresh sound and a different approach to Jazz than his contemporaries, saxophone player and composer Yaron Elyashiv stays true to traditions as he keeps looking forward into the future.

Since his recent arrival to New York late in 2006, Yaron has already been making a name for himself, leading his quartet at the legendary Minton's Playhouse in Harlem. In September 2007 he was invited to record an album with veteran Jazz singer Myrna Lake. And at last in January 2008 Yaron released his debut album as a leader I Remember You, dedicated to his loving mother who passed away in December 2005.

I Remember You features Andrei Ryabov on guitar, Ruslan Khain on bass, Phil Stewart on drums and Taeko Ota on vocals. With in the album five original compositions span a wide range of colors and moods.

The album has been featured on South Florida's premiere Jazz music station WDNA in March 2008. In April 2008 Yaron performed live in the WBGO studios in Newark representing The City College of New York.

The critics are excited too as Edward Blanco of eJazzNews writes “I Remember You is a sparkling musical statement... his performance on the sax is outstanding.” Dan Karcher of WBGO radio station says “Yaron is a wonderful saxophonist, apart of the next generation of Jazz.”

In Israel he gained his formal music education at “Rimon School of Jazz and Contemporary Music”, and with leading Jazz musicians Erez Barnoy, Amikam Kimelman, Mamelo Gaitanopoulos and others. In New York he had the good fortune to study with Barry Harris, Joel Frahm, Bob Mover and Charles Davis among others.
