Joshua Weiner

Joshua Weiner enjoys his day job as a professor and dean but wishes it left more time for music.

About Me

I was born in the NYC area, grew up in Milwaukee, and trained as a scientist in Chicago, San Diego, and St. Louis, before moving to Iowa, where I work as a university professor and dean. I am a proud alumnus of ~15 garage rock bands and have written, performed (drums, guitars, bass, keys, vocals), and recorded my own Beatlesque indie rock tunes with my collaborator Rob as The Poor Richards (self-titled album and the EP “When I Can” are both available on all streaming platforms). I also put out a self-titled double album of improvised dark ambient music as The Main Sequence with my collaborator Joel, also available on all streaming platforms. I have too many guitars, drums, and records and a very lovely and understanding wife, along with 3 beautiful grown children. I enjoy music on a modest setup including a Pro-Ject X2 turntable with a Sumiko Moonstone cartridge, Denon PMA-600NE integrated amplifier, Denon DCD-600NE CD player, Elac Debut B6 speakers, and AKG 712 headphones. I am particularly interested in classic jazz from the 1940s-1970s, avant garde and free jazz, progressive rock, and ambient music.
