Frank Rubolino

Frank has been a writer of live and recorded music for decades, having published in both hard copy and on-line magazines, and currently he documents the live jazz scene through photography, as evidenced by his AAJ photo collection of about 2,800 shots.

About Me

Frank Rubolino has been an avid supporter of jazz since the 1950s. As a serious traveler seeking out live jazz performances and festivals throughout the world, he began documenting his thoughts for his personal files in the early 1970s and has continued that practice. Frank is a past member of the Cadence staff, having had his first freelance works published by the magazine in 1992. In 1997, he became a regular staff writer for Cadence and contributed over 1,400 reviews. He also has written CD liner notes for numerous jazz artists including Kidd Jordan, Joel Futterman, Dennis Gonzalez, Rob Blakeslee, Louie Belogenis, Dennis Warren, Ike Levin, Dana Reason, and others. Frank was a staff writer for One Final Note, the on-line jazz magazine, since its inception in 1999, during which time his interviews, reviews, and photographs of live performances were prominently featured. He also had a short writing period with Jump Arts Journal. His photographs have also appeared in Cadence, Downbeat, New York City Jazz Record, and The Wire. He is a native Pittsburgher but currently lives in Houston where he continues to document the local creative music scene. His educational background includes an Undergraduate Degree from Duquesne University and a Masters Degree from Southern Methodist University, and by day, he is a Certified Public Accountant, a Certified Fraud Examiner, and a Chartered Gloal Management Accountant.
