Woodrow Wilkins

Woody started in jazz with the diverse sounds of Maynard Ferguson's bands of the 1970s.

About Me

Maynard Ferguson's Conquistador opened the door. Six songs, each presenting a different style and mood. Running times range from about four minutes to almost seven. One album. Six songs. And a virtual Pandora's Box of jazz. Not that it makes me an expert or the most well-rounded listener, it conditioned me to appreciate diversity and despise cookie-cutter music. My favorites are Spyro Gyra, Yellowjackets, Lee Ritenour, the Rippingtons featuring Russ Freeman, David Benoit, and some classic rock and soul acts like ELO, Earth, Wind & Fire, Steely Dan and vintage Chicago. I'm a journalist, avid reader and fiction writer.
